Useful TIPS FOR HYDRANGEAS |
| |
 |
|
| I have bought a flowering hydrangea. How should I look after it? |
| |
| Place your hydrangea in a luminous room without direct sunlight on it. Water it every two days without permanently leaving water in the base (risk of asphyxiating the root system). |
|
|
| |
| My potted hydrangea has finished flowering, can I replant it in my garden? |
| |
Of course, after flowering, you can plant your hydrangea in the garden, putting it preferably in the mid-shade (for instance sunshine in the morning, shade in the afternoon)
Firstly, cut back your plant to more or less 20cm above the pot. Then place it in the open ground in light soil, improve it with heath-peat and compost.
|
| |
| NB: If your soil is very chalky, then dig a hole of 30 x 30 x 30 cm. Put some plastic film all around it without forgetting to make some holes at the bottom (to let the water out). Fill in ½ with heath-peat and ½ with compost. |

| I have bought a blue hydrangea, what should I do now to keep its colour in my garden? |
| |
In fact only a few regions, mainly in Brittany and Anjou, can keep the natural blue colour. The soil contains more acid and is often rich in slate.
Nevertheless, it is possible to keep your hydrangea blue by planting it in an isolated plastic hole, as indicated above, and by adding "Bleu de France", "alun salt", or "aluminum sulphate" to the substrat that you will mix correctly. |
| |
NB: To keep your hydrangea blue every year, don’t forget to spread all around the foot of the plant "Bleu de France", "Alun Salt", or "Aluminum Sulphate" once or twice during the springtime.
Dose : 1 spoonful.
"Bleu de France", "Alun Salt", or "Aluminium Sulphate" are on sale at certain retailers, hardware shops, florists or garden centres.

TIPS: DON'T FORGET!! |
|
| |
| During the summer, make sure you water regularly and preferably in the evening, tap water is perfectly suitable. At the end of summer, early in autumn, the colour of your hydrangea will change in different stages. |
| |
N.B. Keep the old dried flowers on the hydrangeas all through the winter. They will ensure a protection against frost. Then in February, beginning of March, prune the stems that have shed their flowers to 15 to 20cm below the flower. In the event of frost forecast, cover your plants with a white frost-proof protection fabric. |
